The Palma Viva Condominiums were originally fashioned from a Date Palm Grove located along 44th Street just North of Campbell in the Arcadia area. Charles Gilliland purchased this 108-acre Date Palm and itrus ranch in 1923. The historic Date Farm, later known as The Gilliland Groves, was designed by HH Green in 1929 and was once the largest date palm grove in the United States. The luscious Dates were sold commercially under the trade name "Arawan". The ranch was converted into 71 fresh and luscious condominiums in 1978. The development consists of condominiums converted from the original farm houses, mud adobes, horse stables, Date Silos, as well as certain buildings built new the same year. Meandering pathways walk you through the farm gates, under the palms, and along side the gardens to the front doors of these unique homes in Phoenix.
